A heartbreaking conversation with Albab A. Dabela on the suspicious death of her brother in Reading, Connecticut, and the subsequent stonewall / coverup by the police and the powers that be, plus her family’s effort to discover what happened on the night of April 4th, 2014.

Albab A. Dabela is a lawyer, arts entrepreneur and founder of the Gugsa Black Arts Collective, established in 2019 in honor of her late brother, Gugsa Abraham “Abe” Dabela. Albab’s younger brother Abe was murdered in April 2014 in Redding, Connecticut, while driving home from a local restaurant. The Redding Police have maintained that Abe’s death was by suicide, yet the evidence does not support that conclusion and the identity of Abe’s killer and the true circumstances of his death remain a mystery.

Albab is a corporate attorney and compliance professional with a focus on complex lending arrangements, and special training in managing bribery and corruption financial crime risk. She completed her undergraduate studies in Philosophy and Psychology at Yale University and studied law at the University of Virginia School of Law. Albab currently serves as in-house counsel for a boutique investment bank, where she is a Managing Director, Senior Legal Counsel with primary responsibility for the bank’s Leveraged Finance group.

In addition to her various professional endeavors, Albab is an avid cook, an amateur artist and gardener and most importantly, a mom to a creative and spunky ten year-old daughter.
